Regulary updates again? [not relevant]
Hi Sailors,
Will Jolla send out updates again on regular bases like before? Now that Jolla is recovering from their financial troubles, I hope we can sail again like before :)
Happy sailing, Dylan
We have moved to a new Sailfish OS Forum. Please start new discussions there.

While I understand the question in regards of Nov15 fallout, why should anything change on that matter now that funding is covered again? Just because we did not get an upgrade over the holiday-season?
My question was about that, as usual they send out an update every 1 - 2 months but now it took longer. After Jolla was in financial trouble, I think I can ask such a question. However I think it was a combination of circumstances: financial, crew, holidays, ...

richardski ( 2016-01-19 21:18:53 +0200 )editHopefully not only maintenance releases and OS-adoptions for non purchasable hardware, but very soon also replacements for unusable applications like dialer (voicecall-ui) and "email", the former completely SIP-unaware, the latter completely ignoring IMAP conventions and forces users to do the real email jobs with a real MUA. Gosh, I have to apply 10 patches to get basic consistency regarding usage and appearance of the user UI. SailfishOS is great state-of-the-art-bundling and an really innovative OS, but smartphones are consumer devices which also need applications running on the operating system! See this 2 years old list – at least half of it is what other vendors are shipping for more than 5 years. It's over due to fix essentials before polishing eventualities.
Mano ( 2016-01-19 21:40:11 +0200 )edit@Mano: And now imagine if people (who have the necessary skills) could actually help with getting those apps up to a usable state!
Patches are good start, but wouldn't it be good if all Sailfish OS users could make use of the improvements they bring ? (Well, at least the less crazy ones ;-) ).
Not to mention that upstreamed patches don't have the risk of breaking on every update...
MartinK ( 2016-01-19 22:21:48 +0200 )edit@MartinK: Absolutely with you. But I think what really is fatal about that non-public development, is that other commercial vendors won't ever start developing for SailfishOS as long as they can't sell their apps in the "store". Either SailfishOS has to change to open development, or the store needs instantaniously a purchase option. If it isn't already too late to get any 3rd party vendor convinced to port/develop for SailfishOS, it will be very soon. And that's the death sentence for SfOS imho. Jolla doesn't have the staff/resources to develop and fix all the needed app, which turns SailfishOS into something usable for paying customers. If it's not usable, there's nobody who will pay. And that's the end of SfOS :-(
