It was good to hear the announcement of another official Sailfish OS run phone.

The Intex Aquafish will run a Sailfish OS version which will supposedly include 'Partner space' / 'Super Apps'. This 'feature' will supposedly be accessible from the left-swipe view (from the home screen). Details are still unclear on this 'feature', but this view will either

  1. Show image or text based 'useful advertisement' from Jolla 'partners' and / or
  2. Will be used to exclusively show feeds and / or notifications alert (e.g. "new offer from ebay") from apps by Jolla 'partners'.

However, I have a few concerns:

  1. Will the user have an option to turn OFF the background service or remove apps of the 'partner'?
  2. If not (to 1), will there be an option to PREVENT the background service or app from using the internet?
  3. Will there be an option to PREVENT the background service or app from accessing the users contacts, SMS, emails or phone logs?

  4. Will the user have an option to 'UPGRADE' to a Sailfish OS version without 'partner space / super apps' (after paying an extra fee to either Jolla / Intex)?

Feedback:
Ideally, the answer to all four questions should be YES. If not, after the tablet fiasco, Jolla risks losing the love of their existing users too and will be going on a downhill path of no recovery. Internet users today are more aware about the invasive and intrusive nature of online advertisements and increasingly turning to ad blockers. Even apple indirectly supports ad blockers on its ios platform.

So it doesn't really inspire my confidence in Jolla when you go against the popular user trend.

Especially when you also highlight protection of user privacy as not just a feature of Sailfish but also a value that Jolla holds dear to it. It shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that privacy, security and 'advertisements' do not go hand in hand ...

I do plan to buy the new Intex Aquafish. But I am sorry - I definitely will not buy another new Jolla phone or tablet unless I receive CLEAR clarifications on this.

(Note: This not a duplicate of previous discussions on this subject. This a request for specific clarifications on a feature in the next licensed Sailfish OS phone.)

I don't think that we can regard any device from any commercial mass market oriented licensing deal as being targeted at us as audience.

We, the community, can be looking forward to the results of that announced collaboration with FairPhone to support the community port for the FP2. This can bring us the new reference phone we are longing for.

@hubat - I am saddened by what you said because there definitely is some truth to it.

Super app IS parnerspace app, just with different marketing name. If you change your ambience your super app will gone :)

I know "Super App" is "Partner Space" and that's why I wrote both together (Partner Space / Super App) everywhere. I just am not clear about the implementation details though ... maybe that's the part that caused the confusion? Let me see how I can edit the post to make myself clearer ...

Can you clarify how changing ambience will remove "Partner Space / Super App"? Ambiences are just Sailfish OS themes, whereas "Partner Space / Super App" is another "view screen" like Notifications or Home screen ... right?

partnerspace apps are defined inside ambiences

@coderus - That's interesting to know! Can you please update your answer post with more details? It's the lack of information that leads to unnecessary speculations ...

I can't believe that licensing partners would allow to have this functionality switched off (so easily) as these services part of their business model. If it is technically that easy, which i don't doubt if the information comes from you, @coderus, than I assume that the licensing deal includes crippling the SFOS functionality to the degree that full control over the super apps is guaranteed.
