For all I care this problem probably comes up the millionth by now..

There used to be a problem (and still is) with the Jolla Phone that the SDCard gets mounted too late resulting in Android apps not being able to access the SDCard until Android support is manually shutdown and restarted. For example see: https://together.jolla.com/question/107380/bug-11928-sailfishos-20-mounts-sd-card-too-late-for-android-support/?sort=votes&page=1

Our household has had two Jolla phones for quite some time now that have to do this shutdown/restart cycle for Android support every time the SDCard needs to be accessed by an Android app.

Now our household is also housing one Jolla Tablet. The problem is that this shutdown/restart is not working on the Tablet and leaves it completely without access to the SDCard.

I have no idea if I did some "additional magic" in the past with the help of going through the NUMEROUS discussions about problems with SDCards in general. That's for certain I won't bother doing so this time.

One thing I can say how I have it on the phones: mmcblk1-mmcblk1p1 vfat /opt/alien/media/sdcard/[SDCard UUID]

whereas on the Tablet: mmcblk1-mmcblk1p1 vfat /media/sdcard/[SDCard UUID]

Any ideas how to fix it THIS TIME when shutting down and restarting Android support does not help anymore (for the TABLET)?

edit: both phones and Jolla Tablet are using SFOS build 2.0.0.10 (Saimaa)

[release notes] 2.0.1.7/Taalojärvi [Early Access] Android Support:

  • Fixed an issue where Android applications (such as file managers) could not access path /media/sdcard

I tested for this fix with Jolla Tablet and OS version 2.0.1.7 Taalojärvi and indeed the "behaviour" has been fixed. Now you can access external SDCard within Android app(s) without any gimmicks and user-made patents.

Also: no need for shutting down and restarting Android support between OS restarts anymore.

Jolla delivers!

Hello,

I have reopened this questions since I don't believe that this issue was fixed in release 2.0.1.7. My tablet currently is running with 2.0.1.11 and a SD card ("ext4" formatted, 128 GB) inserted.

Two examples:

1) Magenta SmartHome (4.3.2.6350): During the installation it is asking for SD card access and the installation fails (most likely due to missing SD card access?)

2) HERE WeGO: Settings do not allow to choose SD card for storing offline maps. The only chance to get this done is to symlink as described here? https://together.jolla.com/question/139664/here-wego-officially-in-jolla-store/

Would prefer another solution ;)

However I am wondering why e.g . Android app "ES File Explorer" is able to access files on the SD card.

Couldn't find any solution for both apps so far... that's why I hope to get help here now;)

Thanks, vision

Afaik HERE and HERE WeGo has never been able to change the save point to SD-card on JollaPhone or JollaTablet so it might be something to do with the way the app is coded?

What you mean FIXED? Sdcard would be never accessed by aliendalvik apps as external sdcard, just forget about it.

Finally I have time a little bit to answer your comments after holiday season ;)

@avhakola: For "HERE WeGo" it is OK for me not to be able to save maps on SD Card. No need to follow up further on this topic since on Jolla C and Jolla tablet there is enough space on the main storage.

@coderus: OK, accepted... ;) Since day 1 of Jolla I was avoiding to use Android apps as much as possible... However now these days I couldn't resist anymore installing the "HERE WeGo" app which I was using for many years in the past. Remaining problem: This "Magenta SmartHome" app doesn't have any installation problem with Alien Dalvik Android Version 4.1.2 on Jolla 1. It is refusing the installation on Jolla C and Jolla tablet only where Alien Dalvik Android version 4.4.4 is running. My question to you: Is there any workaround (most likely on OS level) to tell this "Magenta Smart Home" app that there is "NO" SD Card option on the Jolla C and Jolla tablet available?

I couldn't find an appropriate command on TJC and I am wondering what is the difference between Alien Dalvik 4.1.2 and 4.4.4 regarding handling the SD card mount point from Android perspective.

I am pretty sure you able to help ;)

Thanks a lot for your assistance!
