This post is a wiki. Anyone with karma >75 is welcome to improve it.
It should not be acceptable to suggest shell workarounds! The longer these workarounds exist the problems will not get addressed. Even if you know how to do it with shell, say "No it is a bug and does not work, hopefully will get addressed in next update". Then downvote anybody who suggests shell workaround!
It should not be acceptable to suggest third party programs for industry standard functionality. It increase attack surface, waste resources and problems will not get addressed! If somebody suggest third party program downvote him!
Let's do this! Thanks!
EDIT: In hindsight this idea may be too abrasive and disruptive. I don't think is wholly invalid, some fix needed. Remember to upvote the bugs at least! Maybe refrain from upvoting hax solutions( so do not downvote either. leave them be.)? I fix this for my jollailija thread if possible.
So I should downvote somebody who gives a useful and working solution to my problem? Do you think this is an adequate way of saying "Thank you" in a civilized environment? Solutions that require me to do some CLI typing are perfectly valid as long as they work. Most of them even have the added value of explaining some of the details of how SailfishOS works, which means I can do even more than I originally asked for.
ossi1967 ( 2016-05-11 11:19:17 +0200 )edityes downvote, not tolerating anymore bad solutions. we are now raising the bar!
alloj ( 2016-05-11 11:22:35 +0200 )edit@alloj working solutions are good solutions. Non-working solutions are bad solutions. No solutions are worst. I really don't know what you're trying to achieve... except scaring away people who are willing to help.
ossi1967 ( 2016-05-11 11:31:10 +0200 )editI want improve Jolla more! I want give example: years ago a friend of mine -an iphone user- wanted to check out some app with Nokia phone. He started app, waited few seconds then gave the phone back to me and said "It doesn't work". I took phone, of course app worked but for his standards it didn't- too slow, laggy. I thought him unreasonable then, but not anymore. I think we should look where industry is honestly and not be enablers for bad solutions. That way we get faster improvement! Let's do this!
alloj ( 2016-05-11 11:45:32 +0200 )editSo you assume that Jolla folks won't address a problem because somenone gave a third party based solution ? You really have a high esteem for them !
