optionally install / move apps to sd?
Still not possible...
Well it is possible if you use commandline to move dir, make ln -s etc. But not possible from GUI.
and that is very sad for all the "simple" and "ordinary" user... why is it so complicated to make an option like: store in phone-memory/on sd-card???
peter-berlin ( 2016-05-21 19:49:28 +0300 )because on linux systems you not supposed to choose folder to install packages
coderus ( 2016-05-22 00:28:19 +0300 )rainisto, this is what everyone will do after using the cell for a while. While bash in the cell is nice to have, it is no excuse for bad design. Bad design means lack of really basic features in the common user environment.
coderus, are you serious? lfs, aur, copper, ... does not match the topic and is wrong, afaik.
Moo-Crumpus ( 2016-05-22 09:25:42 +0300 )serious. apps binaries and resources are installed under /usr and you can't just choose where to install. for example N900 had hacks to "optifying" packages and they were installed to /opt directory, which can be mounted to sdcard, but this trick should be performed for each package you want to install to sdcard.
coderus ( 2016-05-22 12:25:15 +0300 )You are aware of @Chemist's post - all my android apps are on the sd incl all data - works quite flawless - but stresses the sd when you make a lot of use of the navigation for example - killed two cards over the last 1 1/2 year - so always keep an up to date backup of your whole sd
I am using the same process @elastic but using Leinard method on TMO that doesn't require messing up with system files, and it is a must do for all sailors because the internal storage of about 13.7 GB on which all SFOS are stored plus user files will definitely keep being an issue. Thanks for the backup advice, I have to say I have been overly confident of it all over the last few months as I am yet to have any issues with it
DameCENO ( 2016-06-10 16:11:02 +0300 )Using flatpak instead of rpm was an option. See https://together.jolla.com/question/136123/flatpak-as-a-app-distribution-format/.

On my device it takes ages (several minutes) to mount the sd card after reboot. So I'm not sure whether it's a good idea to install an app to external storage.
jollajo ( 2016-05-22 10:55:52 +0300 )that is a thing you have to know. But the same happens on my android and lumia.
