[app request] Native Discogs app
Just a hint. Is there anyone who want/would like/could build it?
Discogs is the largest music database and marketplace in the world. It can archive our music and let people buy and sell vinyl and CDs with collectors across the globe.
Here the link for APIs: https://www.discogs.com/developers/
I can confirm that Discogs.com staff is pleased to help and support this idea (thanks to Weetzie)
As some thoughts on this idea, a pure data presentation application (which a browser does just fine) might not be the most useful.
Rather I'd like to look at Quasar MX which is the closest we have in Sailfish today. It has a connection to last.fm and lyricswiki for music data. Similar service integration with the built-in media player and local data would be nice.
Or did you envision a music library tracking application? Or integration with the buying/selling of physical media part of discogs?
Given that the discogs data seem to have a very liberal license and a open API, that's a good as reason to use it as any!
jwalck ( 2016-06-08 10:58:31 +0200 )edit@jwalck No, Discogs is not a music player! It's a music database, where you can find almost everything you're looking for in terms of version and releases of music. It is also a marketplace for phisical CDs/DVDs/Vynils. And.. Its power is in the ordered catalog. So, you can find/sell/buy exactly for you're looking for.
It's the greatest music database. For starting, it would be nice at least having the database navigation features and logging in. Selling/buying is something more.
palikao ( 2016-06-08 11:39:20 +0200 )edit@palikao Then you misunderstood me. I know discogs isn't a music player, neither is the other services I mentioned. But I find information about music is of interest where I have music to listen to, eg. in a music player.:)
But that's a good answer, you're looking for utilizing their marketplace. My primary interest is in their database (which I've use extensively in the past). When it comes to just navigating I find their website just fine so for this I would not need an application.
A discogs application to automate filling in music metadata (ID3 et al.) would be one nice use to me, I've done so by scraping and scripts of my own before!
jwalck ( 2016-06-08 12:51:28 +0200 )edit@jwalck no, I'm looking for both, database (main) and then markeplace! ^^
