Why can't carousel be more like... carousel

I think carousel should be more like carousel, swiping to one direction only. Through a couple pages and then you return were you started. Now we swipe left/right to enter notifications, and then we swipe down to enter another page. Why not just another left/right swipe? Would be easier to navigate if you need to swipe to one direction only.

Keep it simple :)

I have basically proposed the same thing here: https://together.jolla.com/question/137737/settings-shortcuts-and-quick-actions-in-dedicated-carousel-page/

How would you access the app grid from within an application then? The advantage of the current layout (do you honestly think its difficult?) is that no matter where you are, the app grid is only one swipe away. (And so is the notification area.) This is my understanding of "easy". Swiping two or three times to get where you want is not so easy.

Quick settings are implemented as pull down menu not as page. Probably because it IS indeed a menu and they are pull down all over the OS. I'd prefer it to be a page too though (imho pulley menus don't provide any real advantages and I would get rid of them in general)

@ossi1967 The app grid would be accessed like now, why would it have to change? The question author only refers to swiping down to access quick settings and shortucts page if I have understood correctly.

@michel Quick settings are not a pull down menu, you don't pull down and then release, you just swipe down to get to the quick settings page.. however the page has a pulley indicator (the thin line at the top) which makes it slightly confusing at least the first time...

@thisisme: I might have misunderstood, but the OP says "Would be easier to navigate if you need to swipe to one direction only." - I thought he wanted left/right swipes only, no up/downs at all. Arguing that the swipe down for quick settings breaks the flow but leaving the swipe up for the app grid unchanged doesn't convince me.

Basically, the UI consists of 3 screens (horizontally) now: notifications, running apps, partner space. That's already a whole lot to feel lost in. Make it four with an additional screen for "quick settings" and I'll have the Samsung Android feeling I hate so much: "Where am I? What was I looking for? Why is this in the way now?"
