The create ambience pulley menu entry should pop-up a "crop" context if picture is not the assigned size instead of choosing a part automatically.

In my opinion it should create a copy of the picture to be used as new ambience and finally the picture should be renamed e.g. with name of the new ambience.

The new copy of the picture would trigger the crop-action and the new ambience picture would be stored to the same hidden location where user created ambiences are stored.

The ambience picture should not be shown in the gallery at all, due their special nature. However since people would most likely like to edit their ambience pictures, the hidden location of user ambiences should be available for users or editing of ambience picture must be made possible by other suitable method.

Choose an image in gallery, select Edit from pulley menu, select Crop from the menu, select Crop again. You now have 6 options to choose from (aspect ratio); Original, Square, Avatar, Ambience, 4:3 and 3:4. I agree that incorporation of this to the pulley menu would better! :)

So far I haven't found any evidence that choosing create ambience directly for your own picture would do crop action automatically nor we don't have clear guide that ambience picture should be cropped to the special ambience aspect ratio before creating the new user ambience.

My personal experience is that using the same picture to create multiple ambiences is not working well and thus ambience pictures should be unique copies to each ambience user creates.

The hidden location of user ambiences would good information for the users, if the OS doesn't provide other controls to manage ambience settings including the picture maintenance.
