NextCloud support (Fork of OwnCloud)
Hey Sailors, and especially OwnCloud-app developers
can we use NextCloud instead of OwnCloud with these apps?
- Calendar
- OwnNotes
- OCNews
- OwnCloud for Sailfish
Would be awesome - I follow the decisions and ideas of Frank Karlitschek and want to move, but not without Sailfish support. IMHO Calendar, Notes and News can be used as with OwnCloud, are there any experiences? Do developers plan to add NextCloud support?
Thanks, Ray
We are currently in the process of adding both OwnCloud and NextCloud test servers to the Mer infra, so that we can improve our CalDAV and CardDAV support (see https://sailfishos.org/wiki/CalDAV_and_CardDAV_Community_Contributions for info). Once that is done, we will be able to look into supporting different types of sync (images, backups, notes etc) with OwnCloud and NextCloud.
If you're willing and able to help with this effort, please attend the next contribution meeting :-)
chris.adams ( 2016-09-21 04:04:39 +0200 )edit@chris.adams you give some really interesting informations. May i ask you some question. As i see on the page with your link, seems to be that cozycloud (cozy) comes in the program. Do you confirm that i not dream?
Furthermore i want to ask you, how could we b informed of the evolution of this? Will it be a webpage which informed the statement of each test setup? with a kind of "setup not build" "setup on construction" "setup done"cemoi71 ( 2016-10-27 14:07:59 +0200 )edit@chris.adams after rethinking about what i asked i found it partly useless.
cemoi71 ( 2016-10-27 14:42:25 +0200 )editWhat i would strongly suggest is to make by each test setup a user-wiki, and communicate it on the blog. Then each one may have a reference to give if it can't go further with his own setup. Here on tjc is a little bit confuse, and a thread don't cover all cases.
By me, sync with owncloud or cozy don't work, and i'll going mad with it...
@chris.adams Nextcloud developer and Jolla owner here, and stumbled across this post just now. I am not really familiar with C++ or such, but if I can be of any help, I'd be happy to contribute. Besides having Nextcloud as "dumb" cloud provider, it would be cool if the credentials could be reused by other apps, since Nextcloud can do more than just files (e.g. there is a native News client). Also, such a provider should ideally also already add the caldav and carddav accounts (optionally/auto-detect), so everything is integrated into one account. Could come as additional features over time, too, of course, and start simple.
I yet have to read the linked document and meeting minutes. Need to figure out whether and how I can be of help.
Blizzz ( 2016-10-27 14:54:11 +0200 )edit@cemoi71 yes, COZY is one of the services which I would like to see added to the Mer test server set. I can't give a concrete ETA on when it will happen (it requires a docker image to be available on docker hub, probably), but hopefully it will be added soon.
@Blizzz right, we do have plans to add support for synchronisation of other data types (notes, backup blobs, images, and so on). Explicit support for Nextcloud accounts could be added (similarly to how we currently support fruux accounts) once support for the services it provides has matured. We will see how we go, currently there is no concrete resourcing for some of those tasks.
