add ownCloud and Nextcloud as cloud account providers (for backup, gallery, etc.)

We can already add Dropbox and OneDrive in the accounts settings as a cloud provider. This comes in very handy, especially for backups and gallery.

Unfortunately these providers are a no-go for people that are concerned with privacy and security. So please add the possibility to add an ownCloud and Nextcloud account as a cloud storage provider in the SfOS account settings.

This is certainly something that we want to do. We're currently trying to set up a series of test servers hosted on the Mer infrastructure, including OwnCloud and NextCloud, so that we can improve our CalDAV and CardDAV support (see https://sailfishos.org/wiki/CalDAV_and_CardDAV_Community_Contributions for info). Once we have those test servers set up, we will be able to look into adding support for other synchronisation (images, backups, etc) with them.

If anyone is willing and able to help with this effort, please come along to the next contribution meeting :-)

Hi,

I've had my Jolla for almost a year now (fully updated). I'm a big believer of supporting open solutions and Jolla+Sailfish OS is something I believe in. Yet, it's disappointing to see that in October 2016, there is yet no simple working solution to integrate Sailfish OS 2 with Owncloud calendars. I've been searching the net and all I get is a hit and miss from many people. How is it that Jolla do not realise this and that they are still not shipping an account setup with Owncloud?

Cheers

Why not directly WebDAV support? Would be better and adds more compatibility to other WebDAV provider like seafile

I'd say this is not an 'either or'. They could provide a generic WebDAV account type as online storage provider and at the same time "ownCloud" and "NextCloud" as providers that also work with WebDAV as protocol under the hood but at the same time combine features like Cal- and CardDAV to it.

Yes Own-/Nextcloud are more than just a WebDAV data providers. Would also be nice to get Admin Notifications (News) by Own-/Nextcloud as in their desktop applications...
