Does BBC iPlayer work from Aptoide stores

I've downloaded BBC iPlayer app on my tablet (it used to work on my Jolla 1 - but I had installed Google Play on that and I don't use my jolla phone anymore). I have tried a variety of versions from the Aptoide store, and I get differing messages such as 'Unable to play content at this time' or 'Unable to play content - please check the time and date on your device'

Has anyone else in the UK been able to use the BBC iPlayer? Is there anything that I'm missing?

Is there something I could try for android media streaming apps in general?

edit: I thought it would be worth mentioning, that it has worked in the past but after an upgrade it does not

i'm running a version from a few months back on a J1. all working ok, so must be a local issue.

Do you have a version number I can refer to? There are so many different ones on Aptoide. Also, what do you mean by local issue?

am running 4.21.1.5615 ref local issue. i.e. issue on the handset, not the app.
