How do I choose what to backup in Sailfish 2.0.4 (Fiskarsinjoki)? [answered]

It has been a while since I did a backup, so now that I had Fiskarsinjoki installed, I thought I ought to get it done. However, the new backup system does not seem to have an option for choosing what to back up! If I backup all my media files, my backup gets unacceptably large; all I really need are the other small backups.

I haven't found a way of selecting what should go in the backup; is there a way I don't know of?

It seems there are no options, unlike the old system.

If you back up to memory card, your images and vids go with it, if you back up to dropbox(cloud), your images and vids are NOT included. These are the two options I have and use.

You are right! Sorry, temporary blindness struck unexpectedly :-)

Yes! Why it is not working like in the past? The old one was much better, I used it, but since there is no option, I can not use as I would like...

Please set it back...

Have they removed the options to select what you want to back up? That sucks. I certainly hope they haven't adopted the apple philosophy of "we know best what the customer wants, whether they like it or not". :(

With 2.0.4 release the backup process was simplified quite a bit and as a result of that there is no longer the selection dialog what to backup, but instead it does backup of all the things that it did before except media files (Photos,Videos, Music and Recordings).

Also should be noted that backup is now also able to use cloud services like dropbox and onedrive. We are working on improving the backup functionality in the future.

Backups now are much smaller and 'portable'. My backup before 2.0.4 was almost 500MB, now only 5MB. Of course no images nor videos are included, but camera now can save on SD.

@Sage Thanks for your answer.

The main problem with the simplified backup tool is that it will automatically try to backup all my >10,000 pictures (by backing up to the SD card) and I don't want to backup so many files because it will result in a big backup file and I am saving my pictures manually anyway.

I could do a backup to a cloudservice since on this way the simplified backup tool won't backup my pictures, but I don't want to put my private data on DropBox and because of this I resist to backup my files now...

@Alex, I moved my photos and videos to SD card, and they are not part of backup anymore.

@Alex@magullo: Sage is saying that now the media files are not part of the backup anymore, even if they are on internal storage. That would be a great news and it would have been worth mentioning it in the release notes, because I stopped doing backups too since 2.0.2 for this reason.

But @jovirkku is saying the opposite in his answer. So, what does the backup really do??

As of today, the images and videos are included. The current implementation is a huge step backwards in terms of usability and usefulness.

Just like @magullo proposed, it is best a) to move the existing pictures and videos to the SD card - this makes the backup files smaller and it helps to preserve enough working space in the device storage for installing OS updates, and b) to set the camera save the new pictures and videos directly to the SD card - this can be done in Settings > Apps > Camera.

You are saying the opposite than @Sage, who is stating that the backup now ignore media files even if they are on internal storage. Could you guys sync up together and make an official statement about what the backup does? Thanks!
