I & @sledges are pleased to announce Sailfish OS ROM for mozilla flame. This is currently alpha. Many features might not work properly. As my flame's touch screen is broken :-( I couldn't verify what's working exactly.

What's Working:

  • GUI
  • vibration
  • Screen Auto Brightness
  • Screenshot (Vol up + down)
  • Sound
  • Screen auto rotation

What's Not Working:

  • RIL (calls, messaging)
  • WiFi
  • Camera
  • Everything else

Feel free to report me if any, other than mentioned above.

Files:

  1. B2G Base v18D_nightly_v5.zip
  2. Sailfish rootfs sfos_v2.0.5.6_flame_a1.zip

Installation steps for linux:

  1. Download the two files above
  2. Make sure adb & fastboot are installed
  3. extract B2G Base, Connect your phone, run flash.sh
  4. Boot into Firefox OS & enable remote debugging in developer settings.

  5. Now, extract the hybris-boot.img & sfe-msm8610-2.0.5.6ksk.tar.bz2 from Sailfish rootfs file

  6. adb push sfe-msm8610-2.0.5.6ksk.tar.bz2 /sdcard/

    adb shell su

    cp /sdcard/sfe-msm8610-2.0.5.6ksk.tar.bz2 /data/media/0/

  7. Now, enter the phone fastboot mode (power + vol down)

then fastboot flash boot hybris-boot.img && fastboot reboot

  8. Telnet into phone telnet 192.168.2.15 23

Inside Telnet

mkdir -p /data/.stowaways/sailfishos

cd /data/.stowaways/sailfishos

tar --numeric-owner -xf /data/media/0/sfe-msm8610-2.0.5.6ksk.tar.bz2

_wait for a while until it copies the files_

Then type exit & reboot the phone

Enjoy Sailfish OS :-)

Thank you for sharing. I am still looking for a replacement for mu J1, and have found that Fx0 Firefox is available for a reasonable price. Do you think is possible to port also on this device?

Yes. Kernel sources are available for fx0. Also, I have seen someone ported cm11 to it on reddit. Better do a bit research before buying fx0

Tried this out on my Flame and it's really great! I'd actually rather use this than Firefox OS, especially considering that it's dead now. Here comes the (probably, but hopefully not) annoying question: Any chance of a fully working version of Sailfish for this phone? Thanks for the work you've put into it so far though!

Very nice. I was just wondering what to do with my old Flame as it is still an nice phone. Quad band, Dual sim, NFC Bluetooth etc..

I will try flashing it in the near future and give you any feedback you need to further develop this till it is a full replacement for FFOS

Good job!
