Simple question, does jolla have or ever get cell broadcast support? In my country this is used for Nl-alert, where you get a message during disasters.

if this is added, please make it so that the user can turn it on or off.

No news on this yet? I cannot believe the Netherlands is the only country that uses Cell Broadcast. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cell_Broadcast

Here's some more info: http://www.cellbroadcastforum.org/

And yes, we really need it, the Dutch providers support Cell Broadcast

I was really disappointed when I couldn't find a way to configure NL-Alert in Sailfish, but it's really a shame that the team hasn't found the time or need to write any reaction since the initial post more than a year ago.

Please add this feature. It's litterally a vital feature.

This is not only a simple question, but an important one if we take care for each other too. Jolla can and must make this possible if/when people use Sailfish OS every day. It saves lives (in emergency) as we know. How important is that for Jolla? Kindly meant.

Not that it answers anything: In my country, Big Brother uses an app - or two actually, NINA and KatWarn - to alert people in the face of a disaster. Of course, the cell broadcast SMS seems to be the easier way.

Could be made I would say. Also. Look here for some information on getting the broadcast messages using dbus.

Well, cell broadcast support in ofono [1] is integrated long ago, but the ofono rilmodem's CBS support was only integrated in May 2016 [2]. Need to check whether rild sends messages to ofono, and ofono generates D-Bus signals, and of course user app is required to support the cell broadcast [3].

Time to dig the sources...

I've tried to Twitter them (@reviewjolla @JollaHQ) for this: https://together.jolla.com/question/7614/blocklist-for-phone-calls-and-sms/

Maybe you'll have more luck...especially when more people will use Twitter (more public) to get the attention of Jolla.

It's now two years since the last time this question was updated. There has been no news. Is there any progress?

This feature in now a mainstream feature of almost all other OS's. It is becoming a vital link in the Civil Defence systems of most countries. Jolla needs to implement this sooner rather than later.

When will we see it in Sailfish?

I urge as many people as possible to upvote this feature request.

My personal feeling, you won't be seeing this any time soon, unless someone (3rd party) creates and implements it.

Don't expect the skeleton staff of Jolla to be dedicating any time to such function/app. Blockchain is Jolla's current baby and is where all efforts are being directed at the moment and also, you don't seem to realise that Jolla generally doesn't really answer anyone here, although the occasional 'bone' is thrown by someone in the know but isn't necessarily a 'sailor' on the good ship 'Jolla'.

You want this function?, go get a phone with that function, one less thing to concern yourself with. Of course, though, my response here is pure conjecture, but I've been here 5 years and have seen several times, how many requests simply find their way into Room 101....you want it, you make it or move onto/back to another OS, I mean that with all sincerity and not with any malice or spite.

You may instead, want to try and organise a small fund raiser and solicit the likes of @coderus to write such an app/plugin/function, otherwise, I really don't see this happening for you.

Perhaps you may find this site useful; http://www.emergencyalert.gov.au/ which I read about from here; https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/mobile-alerting-trials-for-public-emergencies/public-emergency-alerts-mobile-alerting-trials

Hi @Edz, I don't want to interfere (but I do it nevertheless...), but can you prove your statement here: Blockchain is Jolla's current baby and is where all efforts are being directed at the moment.?

@JMLatJolla

I'm not citing this as 100% proof, but it clearly shows Jolla are concentrating on more than one project; make of it what you will.

Thanks for the answer, @Edz, I know this announcement, but I consider there is a huge discrepancy between directing all efforts and in collaboration with Jolla as stated in the press release... The lead is clearly on the Zipper side, IMHO.
Don't get me wrong, I can understand that if someone is around as long as you are, some frustration and soberness might build up: As the popular wiki poll launched by @AlanBreen shows quite well, some basic functions are still very shaky or even missing completely even after a considerable development time - IMHO Jolla should put the focus on such topics, if they aim to not only attract/gain geeks, enthusiasts and free-spirits as customers. Even something as commonplace as a competitive camera application would be a good selling point for new potential customer circles...
But Jolla must also take care to keep up with the current state of software development: Outdated QT, Android or Web browser versions will inevitably become a problem. The big license holders certainly also have their own needs - honestly, from this corner I would expect popping-up the concrete requirement for the here discussed cell broadcast support. And of course Jolla also needs to work on future-oriented concepts, such as Blockschain... Getting everything under one roof is undoubtedly a huge challenge for a relatively small company...
