Apart from the base model of Sony Xperia X (F5121), there are also the Sony Xperia X Performance (F8131), the Sony Xperia X Compact (F5321) and the Sony Xperia X Dual Sim (F5122). Will Sailfish X be compatible with these variants as well?

Obvious differences:

  • Sony Xperia X Compact has the same processor, but a different screen, and USB-C.
  • Sony Xperia X Performance has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 MSM8996 processor, a different screen and is waterproof.
  • Sony Xperia X Dual Sim is almost identical to base Sony Xperia X, but it has two SIM slots and 64GB flash.

EDIT: An important question for Jolla: If we bought a base Sony Xperia X image and were able to flash it onto one of these phones, would we get full access to Android, Microsoft Exchange, spelling correction and the other such features (though obviously no Jolla support for any phone problems)? @jovirkku?

I wouldn't expect official support. Community maybe. They said many times they are thinking of adding more devices but at the point they will get the X port ready all those are going to be old devices. Sony already presented the xz1 compact which i would like to see official support for.

I am hoping that the variants are similar enough to be fully compatible out-of-the-box, but of course someone would have to have the various phone versions and test that to make sure.

@00prometheus having a phone with no official support and access to the store doesn't make much sense. To me at least.

Ported Device has Access to store. But the lacks the commercial parts like Alien Dalvik, Exchange and XT9

Didn't know X Compact has the same processor as normal X. This means Sailfish X MIGHT be able to run on X Compact without modifications. Though it's better to check if it has a separate AOSP tree. X Performance seems like a completely different device.

Hi, I have a functional local build of 2.1.3.7 for the X Compact and it is in the hands of a couple of testers. Currently we have a bug which is stopping us building on the OBS build infrastructure and I don't want to release the image until that is resolved because without automated builds we can't offer OTA updates.

Does it have all the extras, such as Alien Dalvik, Exchange and spelling support?

This is a community build, so no it doesn't contain any proprietary software. It does however have full Jolla Store support so every native app will be available.

No compatibility with any other models has been promised. However, someone has successfully flashed the F5121 firmware onto a F5122 (dual-SIM Xperia X). This gives me hope that it may be compatible. Surprisingly, the dual-SIM X (with 64GB not 32!) generally goes cheaper than the F5121.

Great! Do you have more information about this?

JoHe ( 2017-09-09 11:40:35 +0200 )edit

There are a lot of success reports on F5122: https://together.jolla.com/question/168979/any-success-installing-sfos-on-f5122/ Even I am using official Sailfish X on F5122.

peremen ( 2017-12-04 12:27:46 +0200 )edit

I have X on the F5122, as well! Haven't gotten around to editing the config files to activate the second SIM , though.

Confirm success on a F5122, SI 1302-4057 Rev 4, from build 34.3.A.0.252, from Linux with two SIM from Salt Operator (Switzerland). However: - Some settings took several retires to work or I had to wait - SIM1 and SIM2 are inverted

I picked up a F5122 in hopes that it'll work and that I can do a resizefs on it to use the full space. Here's to hoping.

Are you able to install Android support on it? Does the second sim work?

00prometheus ( 2017-09-14 23:01:08 +0200 )edit

I don't have SFOS on it yet. Waiting for public release before I dive into that.

As an Android device, it's quite nice, and having the fingerprint scanner on the power button is amazing. I'll miss that feature on SFOS.

Our current project concerns solely Sony Xperia X (F5121) model at this point. We cannot unfortunately promise that the port would work on other models, nor can we promise the access to Android Support and other apps in Jolla Store from other models.

Dual sim is supported in SFOS. The Jolla C and other phones support it.

So, I understand that you can not support other models, however are you saying that they would not work, or is it worth trying if you have one of the other models? In particular, are you saying that Android support should not work on other models (i.e. are you locking Android support to the supported F5121 model)?

Use search engines, read the Jolla Blog, search this forum, follow Jolla on twitter, read the xda-developer forum. If you don't find news about X compact there, we will most probably don't have it either.

I did so and landed in this thread so..... what exactly is your point? I assume there are jolla dev's reading and answering on this platform aren't they?

Devs answering here is very rare and never about speculation. But in numerous blog entries James Noori from Jolla team answered the questions about new devices in the comments section. His constant answer is, that they will tell us when it is time. For example here and here.
