How can I switch the device off [answered]

I may be too stupid to figure out how to switch the device off. Short of removing the battery.

Hold the power button for a few seconds, and you should see an option to turn the device off. Alternatively, keep holding down the power button and it will shut down after a few more seconds. You could also enter 'shutdown' in a terminal.
