back to toh for a while. wow!
My jollac got its screen busted after the nth fall; so I was forced to my backup jolla, the TOH.
I wanted to share my experience cause I believe it to be relevant. I think others could try and (should!) share the same too.
First a bit of background; as mentioned I own an TOH with the red poppy; which means ive been riding sailfishes since beta days. In the beginning, the first impression was "meh" mostly due to the poor performance and unreactive ui, as well as primitive os (it was, sorry jolla guys). surely it had nice ideas, like the vertical swipe ui, and the other half concept (which btw i think is cool); but otherwise, it wasn't the step forward from meego, that was to be expected. Typing was horrible, the web browser was slow; the ui was sluggish at best, mails were working on and off, calling was difficult, receiving calls was a lottery, calendar was not syncing; well it was beta. I gladly switched to jollac (without regrets), which gained some speed and the bigger screen.
So now! As i dont own android and/or ios, once my jolla c broke, my only option was to wait for sailfishx on xperia; but as life goes, things take their time, and i got "stuck" (that honestly was my first thought) with my old OTH. i unpacked it, the upgrade was smooth to my surprise; btrfs did not complain (which was always the case). But what surprised me was the ui. Its popping! And fast! Apps actually start! Booting does not take forever anymore. The TOH is actually a better experience than the jollac! And more important, the TOH is a better product now than it was before! This is nowhere the same product I left when I switched to JollaC.
I'm impressed about the experience improvement on such an old (!) hardware. Keep up the good work jolla; youre up to something here. I don't know what, but probably some treasure ;).
What does OTH stand for?

ossi1967 ( 2017-11-21 11:02:04 +0200 )editOn topic, I too am imporessed with the quality of SailfishOS on the J1. I cannot use the J1 as my main device any more because the battery is really bad now and I don't want to buy a new one when I have other Sailfish devices to use. But I use it every now and then for testing purposes and I'm more than impressed with its performance. This is a device from 2013, receives more regular updates than my new Android phone (I got one from my employer that I have to use for business) and is really fast for what it has to offer in terms of CPU and RAM. Thumbs up!
