Sony MDR-NC750 headset with Xperia X

I noticed that Sony makes a wired headset (MDR-NC750) with noise cancelling.

MDR-NC750

And they are specified as a supported accessory for the Xperia X

Xperia X spec

The thing that is a bit special with them is that they seem to not need the battery that normally is found on the cable for other noise cancelling headsets. They seem to use a 5-pole plug to provide power to the NC part of the headset.

Can someone confirm whether these work fine with SailfishOS on the phone, or is there any kind of software support that needs to be in place as well and that is now missing? And if someone knows, can the NC be turned on/off with a button on the headset or something similar?

Found the same thing 2 weeks ago and had the same question. The 5-pole plug does'nt provide power, it provide additional 2 microphones, one on each speaker. The NC has to be done by the phone (I don't know if this happen in hardware or software).

If the phone just see 2 microphones, then someone could build an application (running in the background) for the NC thing. I found it specially interesting since you could not only do noice cancelling, you could also filter and amplify speech. (I have'nt bought them, to expensive, but if NC or even speech amplification works, it could be worth it.)

I don't think the noise cancelling function will work, as that is something that is protected by the DRM which is wiped when you unlock the bootloader

Searching a bit on this seems to confirm that noise canceling will not work without DRM keys. But I have not found information from Sony about this. It could be just noise canceling algorithms for the camera that is affected, as we already know the camera to be a bit crippled by the removal of the DRM keys.

typically that would be called 'noise filtering' or 'noise reduction', and not 'noise cancelling'
