I'am not so familiar with the process of pushing requests into the direction of the producer (Jolla). For example; where is a consolidated bug list with activities from Jolla in addressing them. Even when the answer is "wont fix", it would help to understand the status. For this particular case; adding a "genres filter" would improve the usability of the music application by many orders of magnitude. Still wondering how the interaction between the community and the producer actually works. Because my main focus is more in other tech areas outside of this community, I don't got it directly how this here works. On the other side it is a good position to evaluate it, because it (community etc) should help new users to understand it more or less directly how things work. Here I see some kind of a gap, thought.
Interaction from Jolla to community?, practically non-existent as the community does not pay the bills. Don't expect any changes to the fabric of mediaplayer. As suggested above, use a third party app for now, but don't wait on Jolla. There is no consolidated bug list that I know of, they are scattered all around this forum, diluted and buried in some cases. Perhaps someone else has a more positive spin, but I've been here for 5 years and for me, it all feels a little stale and lacking.
Spam Hunter ( 2018-03-29 00:35:10 +0200 )editIt depends. In general, this website is an accepted channel. Tagging your question accordingly ("bug", "idea",...) should help.
On the other hand, the response you get depends a lot on the application/component your input is about. Some Jolla employees spend time taking input from TJC and help debugging the apps thjey work on together with the community. Others don't seem to bother. As for the media player an the underlying framework, there are bug reports since 2014 that have never been looked at or commented upon. Whoever is responsible for that doesn't take input.

This is really needed!! Currently, I am scrolling myself to death to find the right artist (here at least a search function would simplify). But a genre view would be best ... First genre, then listing the artists, then albums etc. This way you can search music more following the mood instead of mechanically thinking of an artist.
Deonith ( 2014-02-06 20:56:27 +0200 )editI use Genre to quickly access my Podcasts and to distinguish them from my music.
Enyogyo ( 2014-02-20 02:21:39 +0200 )editThis is one of my most missed features! Is there any hope that this is implemented in the near future?
sgleo87 ( 2014-06-08 10:55:31 +0200 )editI too think this is really needed - I have a mix of music, podcasts and audiobooks, and finding the item I want to listen to is harder than needed. Genre filtering would be quite useful.
Additonally, it should be possible to refine the search from a top category using another category i.e. Show me the genres, then under "Rock" let me chose "Album", Author" or "all titles" again.
mikelima ( 2015-02-19 18:55:23 +0200 )editMy temporsry solution is using QuasarMX since it offers filtering by genre but I really hope this feature gets implemented in Jolla media player someday :)
