Is Sailfish X only to use for Sony Xperia X, or is it also suitable for other Xperia-Devices like Z1, Z2 or Z3?

Only for Xperia X (F5121) and (unofficially) Xperia X Dual SIM (F5122).

Correction: At this time it is out for Xperia X single SIM model only, but dual SIM version support is planned to be released with Sailfish 2.2 Mouhijoki. Please see https://blog.jolla.com/sailfish-x-whats-next/ for more info.

What's there to correct? I'm running it quite happily on my F5122 with a patch to enable the dual SIM functionality...

That is something only Jolla can answer :)

I'd say at least legal agreements muat be in order first. I do believe that the hardware adaptation is done already, or in the final ironing out the last bugs -phase.

There is one thing I would like to know... Is there a product naming strategy for official ports?

  • The official port of Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia X is called Sailfish X.

So...

  • Will an official port of Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia XA2 be called Sailfish XA2?

...or...

  • Will the official port of Sailfish OS for Sony Xperia XA2 be called Sailfish X too?

I'll continue referring to my F5121 with Sailfish OS as a Sony Xenia X as Xperia is Sony's branding for smartphones running Android.

I think this "Sailfish X" thing is pretty silly and just a not well thought through marketing gimmick. It doesn't scale very well. Better just to call it "Sailfish for Xperia X".

Sorry for the excessive editing, but I couldn't get the link to Wikipedia to work properly.

In the Press Release to the MWC 2018 from Jolla the following is stated:

"Through the Sailfish X programinterested tech heads can purchase an official Sailfish X license and install the OS on theirbrand new Sony’s Xperia™ XA2 devices."

Therefore, I am asking myself if the current SailfishX image can be installed on the Xperia XA2 or XA2 Ultra. Did anyone out there tried to install the current Image on the new Xperia XA2 device??

Prefer the XZ Premium design, would be nice if it was functioning on single sim XZ.

But if I understood correctly, only XA2 is confirmed to be supported, dunno bout XZ Chipset

Linux-Woermel ( 2018-03-19 19:39:26 +0300 )edit

I don't think it will work, as they have differents chipsets, probably differents components, and more. But, as I interested on upgrating my phone to the Xperia XA2, I asked Jolla and they said that I will able to swap my licence to the Xperia XA2 from my Xperia X :)

No, and attempting such a thing is stupid and dangerous, at best your phone wont boot until reflashed, at worst it wont boot ever again.

@carmeloferso: So it has been confirmed that the Xperia X-licence also applies to the XA2? Does that mean that if you buy Sailfish X now, you can use it with the XA2 later? I have an XA2 and would like to install Sailfish OS on it too. :)

A suitable defintion could be that Sailfish X is named after the first device, meaning Sailfish OS for Sony's open device program ;-)
