Libre Signal on Sailfish X

Hey everyone,

I an now a proud owner of Sailfish X, running smoothly so far.

But I was wondering: where did the native Libre Signal app go? I can't find it anymore in the Jolla store. Nevertheless, it still works on my old Jolla Phone.

Does anyone have a solution for that or ideally a way to get the native app back?

I have already tried the Signal app from the Android store but it doesn't work very well. No access to my contacts (yes, the app is permitted to access contacts), and I can't even text someone by clicking the number in a group chat. I would really have to manually type in someones number.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

This has been discussed a number of times, there is a native app, it does not have all features but is located here https://github.com/aebruno/whisperfish

Was that tested today? If so then add an issue on the github. It did work for me last month without a problem.

Received a message on 28 Feb and just sent another now with double ticks showing sent/received. In Australia and to NZ.

Sorry I don't and doesn't seem to be a way of checking in app but it doesn't look like the one above. Would 'reconnect' in whisperfish help? Edit - it did nothing

since the morning (05.03.2018 CET) the application is not able to connect to the servers. see the issue on github

I'm using whisperfish v0.5.1 and it is working (10.12.2018) with saifishOS 3.0.0.8 (free version with Xperia XA2)

It was an Android App and Sailfish X has not the full support of the Android Apps in the Harbour (Jolla Store). Only Here Maps and Aptoide.

Thats because there are two versions of Sailfish X: One official, which you can buy from Jolla One Community Version, without commercial parts. Therefore, there are no Alien Dalvik, Exchange Active Sync and XTp Text recognition in the community version.

Jolla doesn't yet found the way, how they can separate community versions from the official versions in the harbour - so they pulled out the access to the android apps for all sailfish X Devices.

The only possibility is: Install F-Droid and donwload Signal-Messenger from F-Droid

I can't see signal in Fdroid, but they have the apk on the Signal website for direct download: https://signal.org/android/apk/

the apks works as well and syncs with the contacts, I have used that for a while, I have not switched to whisperfish because of the amount of conversations

Thanks, that explaina a lot.

unfortunately, I couldn't find Signal in F-Droid either.

I have already downloaded it from the Play Store, but as mentioned above it doesn't work too well.

@Eles I recommend not using the playstore, that adds dependencies that are averted in the direct download from the https://signal.org/android/apk/

Thanks @marxistvegan; unfortunately the installation of the direct download doesn't work; it simply tells me that it's not been installed.
