My Two Cents about Aliendalvik [not a question]
Just putting this out there for anyone itching for aliendalvik support:
I have been an Android user exclusively, going back to at least 2012, and almost entirely Sony, (with a dew other dapplings). When I saw the sfos port for my Xperia x compact, I was excited to try something new, but pretty much expected something like the buggy alpha ports I've seen in the past (FirefoxOS, Ubuntu touch, etc). When I flashed it and started using it, I was pleasantly surprised at the near-full functioning of the port, and also at how much I liked Sailfish. Still, though, when I heard about Android support via aliendalvik, I sensed that I had to have it, if I was to stick to sfos. Through various strivings, I was able to obtain copies of the needed files, and got Android on my Sailfish. I felt complete. Then, an interesting thing happened: Within 2 weeks, I became almost totally uninterested in Android. It just happened naturally, like faith or something. I never aaw it coming. So, if you're out there with Sailfish, and unhappy that you don't have aliendalvik, or considering flashing it, but not sure how you could live without Android, just start using Sailfish and see what happens.
note- I understand certain exceptions where you need a certain unsupported Android app for work or something. My point is more general. Black and white truth - Sailfish is better than Android. If there was a better browser for stock sfos, I probably would never use Android apps anymore.
I woeld not say better: but different. * more open * C++ instead of Java * Less restricted (has pro & cons) * different user experience * more efficient

thisisme ( 2018-04-12 14:50:51 +0200 )edit@nthn - sorry if inappropriate. I guess my question was implied: 'what do you all think?'. I realized that it wasn't heavily substantive, but didn't seem too out of line with some other 'questions' I've seen. Glad to edit or remove if best.
Levone1 ( 2018-04-12 15:58:16 +0200 )editOk, here's a possibly more substantive rephrase of the question: is Aliendalvik really a vital feature going forward with Sailfish OS, (if you want Android, just use Android)?
Levone1 ( 2018-04-12 17:18:11 +0200 )edit@thisisme yes the browser is the only real app we need. A good update would be a great feature for the next release.
