[Feature request] Allow hotspot / WIFI tethering without active mobile data connection
I just wanted to open a connection to my Xperia X to transfer some files. I have no active WIFI around and also no data connection (and no USB cable). So I wanted to open the Sailfish's hotspot and connect my laptop to it.
Well, doesn't work, it says "Mobile data connection required" (or similar, german environment...)
Why is this needed? It comes in very handy even without internet access if I want to connect to the phone, or if I can open up a hotspot to connect some laptops with each other.
Thanks for considering and best regards, Flox
I don't think the hotspot feature was ever intended to work this way. Why not use Bluetooth to transfer files to your laptop?
I think you can configure laptops to connect to each other in the manner you want.
I think there's better things for the Jolla software guys to work on.

I didn't try bluetooth for file transfer in a long time, as wifi networking with ssh is much less hassle and provides console access as well. Also using Sailfish's access point feature always worked well for this - until now. And enabling this is not really like implementing a new feature, but removing a block (and maybe adding a notice that there's no internet access).
