Sony Xperia XA2: What are we going to see?

Hi there,

first of all I would like to say that I am happy to see that Sailfish is still around and improving and that there is some kind of a hardware base now.

After some time off I got myself a XA2 Dual SIM (H4113) the other day and I am ready to be back in the game. Looking at OLEDs and iPhones for the last year I have to admit that the display of the XA2 is not very good, to say the least, but it is the best you can get, I assume.

In the 3.0.1 Sipoonkorpi release note I see in the XA2-Section:

  • NFC not working
  • Fingerprint detection not working
  • Bluetooth: initial support only
  • FM radio not implemented
  • XA2 does not power up when alarm time has elapsed
  • Display blanking is unstable during phonecalls or alarms

Judging from the Xperia X which has been around for quite some time there is not much hope that any of the hardware-related issues (except BT) will be solved. But maybe there is some more background knowledge available to any of you.

Is there any information which issues will most likely be/never be solved? (i.e. because it is a legal/licence/driver problem)?

And I have another question, which maybe somebody running Sailfish on a XA2 would be willing to test:

Is it possible to change the MAC-address for Wifi? Usually "ifconfig hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx" will do the job. On the Jolla 1 it was not working due to binary blob driver restrictions.

Fingerprint support came later in Xperia X, too.

It's disappointing that that's the list I've got to look forward to . . . . . . .

What about a smart watch support of XA2 vs. Xperia X? Does an improved android support 8.1 enable working of Galaxy Wearables app etc.? If no, I find not any reason why XA2 should be better than X of the Xperia phones.
