[wish] integrated full featured matrix client
Ahem, yes there is a little (or bigger) PoC in my sdk now, but...
it seems that matrix is the next gen open source communication system and it looks like a quite impressing system. Yes, you can build a client app but there is no connectivity to
- the address book
- VoiP features are not bound to the phone app (ok, there is still no binding to xmpp and sip)
- main info features like blinking status led is not implemented
So it would be nice to have this system integrated in the main system. (and my PoC is really big because of the olm python bindings...)
Hello.
I'm triggered by the word 'integrated' :-). I work on an integrated solution but it is a long hard road with issues on all sides — (IMO) there is no good Qt-based library and the integration framework (Telepathy) is mostly stagnating.
There is a PoC of an integrated libQMatrixClient-based client that integrates into jolla-contacts and jolla-messages, but it supports only 1-1 text chat. It is not possible to get any kind of "integrated" and "full featured" client without a significant investment. :-( I work on Telepathy for years and my best hope is to get 0.1.0 release of the rudimentary matrix client this summer. The most optimistic plan is to implement group chat support before the winter but it is a lot of work (mostly on low-level opensource components).
Replace the word "integrated" with "native" to make the wish feasible.

He didn't publish it to Openrepos yet, but have Mer Project OBS builds. You are definitely not alone with integrated IM solutions wishes, I'm trying to help @Kaffeine with Telepathy-based project at my free time too. While it's true we are limited with resources now, It makes sense to combine our efforts :)

I can contribute moral support (money!) and I'm sure others would too, it's a shame we don't have a native client on SF. TIA
