When I tried to backup my data before upgrading to 3.2, the standard backup from settings ended with a sad face and told me my media data could not be saved and I should look at a log file in /tmp/ for details. The log file states there was no space left on device.

--- edit -------------------

there was insufficient space on the internal memory, not on the target device (SD card)

mkdir: cannot create directory `/home/nemo/.local/share/system/privileged/Backups-tmp/units/sailfish_backup_2019-11-08T23-12-23Z/Media': no space left on device

--- /edit -------------------

I think such a common error case should be handled in a user friendly manner. Digging in log files should be reserved for more complex problems. ;-)

Just read in release notes of 3.2:

Backup service can now get the information on the available storage reliably.

So maybe this issue has been fixed with 3.2. I'll check after my device is updated.

Nope. No improvement with SFOS 3.2.0.

Hi. I have the same problem, there is enough space on the SD card but when trying to backup the message is "media data could not be saved". How is it possible to get a backup done now anyway? Thanks!

I do not remember where but here on TJC

Probably this is not about internal storage but about file size limitation on SD card's file system?
A "normal" FAT32 allows only up to 4GB (exFAT would allow more but we do not have it (yet?)). Never ran into this. And store big size files on SD always.

As you can see from the error message (see above), the problem does not occur on the SD card. My SD card contains an ext4 partition, by the way.
