How to Unzip file using native app (not terminal) [answered]
Is there an native app which can unzip downloaded ZIP files? I was expecting File manager - but no action there. Thank you
We have moved to a new Sailfish OS Forum. Please start new discussions there.

File manager actually can do it. The trick is to click in ZIP file (properties shown) then pull down menu choose OPEN. New window showing content of the ZIP file opens. There either pull down menu "extract all" or click on file to extract. Thanks to @Damien Caliste for his post
I agree, it should be a standard functionality in the default File Manager. But there is an excellent alternative: use "FileCat" from Openrepos. It has extended functionality and can open and extract zip-files. You can find it through the Storeman App or here: https://openrepos.net/content/llelectronics/filecat
Strange, FileCat works fine with my 64 GB SD card, but you have to select it on the upper right. The integration of compressed files is great, it actually opens a second FileCat window with the compressed content, no need to extract it first, this is an additional option.

When you tap on the compressed file in the file manager (setting app, storage and file manager from the pulley menu), it should open an archive viewer where you can decompress. I've just tested it with a .tar.gz file, but it should be the same with a zip one.
Damien Caliste ( 2019-11-27 11:39:44 +0200 )editYes this is the answer! Indeed this is working even for ZIP files. The problem is non-consistent menu. On hold it shows only Cut/Copy/Delete (no Open ) when clicked it shows properties of file, on pull down menu does not show extract. Choosing "open" from pull down menu works, on open zip file yet again pull down "extract all" is available.
