Hi,

since I use the XA2 as an daily device I plan to use my Jolla 1 wall mounted for displaying a webpage of my home automation system. Double tap will be great to wake up the device.

Has anyone removed the battery and connected / soldered an power supply (e.g 3,3 V) direct? Any kind of support would be great :)

Stephan

The JollaC was capable to start without battery only attached to wall charger.

I did not hear/read about Jolla1 (and no other phone).

So I guess some electronic and/or soldering skills needed? And no I did not ;)

If it is refusing to start without a battery, just connect a capacitor instead, and you have a good chance of that working.

Jolla 1 has the pins for TOH. Would something connected to the power pins fake a battery?

Yes, that's the plan. But what about the third pin? Is that an battery size indicator like on the BL-5B Li-on batteries of Nokia phones? Or an internal thermistor? See: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/10588/why-are-there-3-pins-on-some-batteries

no idea. i made dummy batteries for myself with just two pins and it working just fine.

@Setphan:

When people used HTC batteries in their Jolla phones, the temperature was missing. So it's either a thermistor, or some 1-wire protocol talking with the embed protection circuitry.

BUT those people still managed to use their Jolla despite this, so you can predict that such dummy battery would still work, only show missing battery temperature.

missing battery temperature for dummy battery is fine imo :D

I tested with a Jolla 1 on Sailfish 3.1.0: no, the phone does not start without battery.

Did you remove the battery and tried to connect USB? I would like to attach an power supply direct to the three pins within the case.

I think I've saw software in Openrepos which you can use to select mode. Never tested in my Jolla 1 and can't say does it work anymore with newer Sailfish.

I am pretty sure this does not work without battery attached (as feature is available only on a bootex device which needs batt when starting). And I guess device will power off if you pull the batt, even in USB only mode (just an assumption).

Well, yes. Phone requires battery being in place, otherwise it shuts down. Point being that battery can be dead as long as phone detects it. If really wanted to run without battery, wall-to-battery converter needed to be done.
