I prefer the new layout. Each tab gets as much space as it needs.

My duplicate extends this with the jolla-clock app: https://together.jolla.com/question/219142/bug321-clock-app-tools-text-misalignment/

This looks extremely ugly. Feels like a bug.

Also elements of the UI (page contents, the top menu indication) and the text of the tabs remaining still makes the interaction feel weird. And add to that that the colours of active versus inactive tab not being distinguisable enough. (light ambiances)

It is a really neat idea and works well but the the graphics need quite some tweaking.

I have never seen that kind of UI design before (does not mean it does not exist).

But in portrait mode it looks awkward and like a bug. When you switch to landscape mode (something not available on vanilla SFOS for affected apps) you can get the feeling for being made on purpose....

I personally prefer the old (same tab width) design. But hey....
... one can adopt to it.

But not to this kind of UI changes!

Yes, you're right... but the phone application looks better before, now it's lost symmetry.

that look more ugly now... cant understed why tabs can not be same size, if they dont have big text inside, and equal sizes tabs looks much better

So you can probably close this question as not a bug or rewrite it as a feature request, @sashikknox?

@sashikknox for me it looks like a bug and i prefer like it was before but Jolla made it on purpose.

@Maus he can always change it to feature request as it looks ugly

Maybe its some kind of modern art...joke. Its not a bug but it hurts my eyes. Jolla, please fix it. And is somebody outthere, who love this crazy look?

I like it. For me it is now more minimalistic and i belive we could get less or more then 3 tabs :)

I accept your opinion, but in this case you have set the dailerfield also outside the center. And so much in this UI (appdrawer, clock,keyboard,.....) also. For what?

From screenshots in this thread I didn't like it but after update on phone I must admit that is not bad and maybe I like it more - it is more "unlike".

especially if you are left-handed and want to tap People tab, then you realize it's really "unlike" ;)

atlochowski ( 2019-12-25 15:35:32 +0200 )edit

@atlochkowski: for this case there is always the swipe gesture. and as that wraps around, any tab is always only one swipe away.
being left handed also I don't see a big problem with the new tabs alignment in this regard. they're just looking odd.

rozgwi ( 2019-12-25 17:29:52 +0200 )edit

@rozgwi, of course I can swipe. But if it's possible to tap it should be easy to reach for left and right handed people.

@atlochowski: I see your point. it's inconsistent, that's true. but as the tabs are positioned at the top they're not useful for one handed use anyway - at least on my Xperia X...
aren't the tabs just to add redundancy with a 'tap flavour' option to users that prefer operating their phone with two hands?
I always regarded them as not being designed for one hand use since regardless of what hand you're holding your phone in, you'll only ever each two at max or even just one

rozgwi ( 2019-12-26 03:54:28 +0200 )edit

Even after this long time, it still burns my eyes :)
