Is there a native file encryption app such as Foil Pics that easily allows to enrypt individual files from the file system?

Have a look at "miniLock" from Jolla store. It allows you to encrypt files and send them as attachment to different people who are able to encrypt them with their own secret password. See https://github.com/cathalgarvey/go-minilock for more information (the Jolla app is simply a frontend for the core miniLock package).

Other than that you can use any FUSE-based command line tool to create your own crypted filesystem on the device. I personally use gocryptfs (https://github.com/rfjakob/gocryptfs) together with Syncthing (https://syncthing.net) to sync my encrypted files to cloud storage. It's a good backup solution but with no native frontend yet available.

Thank you, but I'm thinking of something more convenient for the Smaprtphone age ;)
