Is there any way to customize the content of the glance screen, either with personalized input like Reminders, or by routing other data eg calendar? As it stands it's not particularly useful.

Not out of the box, no. As far as I know, there is also no 3rd party software for this purpose.

If you want to risk bricking your device, you can mess around with the foldered contents of 'lipstick-jolla-home-qt5' and try getting useful stuff to display, but this requires a large set of testicles with an even larger wheelbarrow to carry them in, a fair wind, the luck of the gods and extremely good knowledge of how not to brick your device when playing with lipstick, which ultimately I don't really recommend, unless of course, as mentioned, you are okay with bricking your device, having to reset it, then upgrading and starting all over again. I think I covered everything there, sorry there is no useful information. However, if you are confident with editing code and creating your own QML files, crack on!...oh and if you break your device, you can keep both pieces!

you tagged it as a feature request. I think you can forget about it. There os no official port to phone with amoled screen so don't think that Jolla will implement something like this in the near future.

The LPM mode already works on existing phones; I would have thought that customizing what is displayed is merely a software problem; why does it matter which kind of screens the phones have?

Because AMOLED screens use less energy when most of the screen is black, what happens during glance screen. This is the reason why Nokia N9 had AMOLED screen and glance screen mode.

"The major benefits from OLED type displays comes from the high level of control that can be exerted over each pixel. Pixels can be switched completely off, allowing for deep blacks and a high contrast ratio. Being able to dim and turn off individual pixels also saves on power and produces deep blacks."

IPS or AMOLOED should not a big concern. Nokia managed to implement a glance screen on the Windows phones and it work fine, they just turn down the IPS back lighting brightness to a minimum level to minimize the battery drain and limit the glance action to react to the prox sensor. So keeping the ON time of the glance/peek to a minimum and as long as the feature remain a user customised choice choice would not do harm. It would be great that the guy/team behind ''Billboard standby screen'' for the Nokia N9 could addapt for Sailfish. Sailfish LPM is mostly the reflect of it's lockscreen display minus the wallpaper. Customising the lockcreeen content just a little more and it would do the trick.
