[XA2] Activate Bluetooth in Aliendalvik Control? [answered]

I checked the archived questions/answers on this issue, but none of them seemed useful. I have Aliendalvik Control installed, but when I activate Bluetooth by moving the slider to the right, Bluetooth remains deactivated. Why can't I activate Bluetooth in Aliendalvik? Do I need to do something else to get Bluetooth support in XA2? Both SFOS and Aliendalvik Control are the latest versions.

Whilst there may well be issues with Bluetooth stack upon XA2 running 3.3.0.16 it is still possible to activate Bluetooth through Sailfish GUI either via Settings or pulley "Pull down", although I agree that moving slider to the right under AlienDalvik control it still remains "greyed out".

I have activated Bluetooth natively for SFOS. But Aliendalvik is for Android apps and I would like to have Bluetooth working for Android apps. It doesn't work at all with XA2.

The problem is that native SFOS' bluetooth speaks BlueZ. And Adroid speak their different incompatible own API. One would need a layer that translates from one to the other. But that's not available yet by Sailfish.

Meanwhile, what you can do, is use devices that are handled natively by SFOS and show up as a standard device in Android:

  • you can configure bluetooth audio headsets in SFOS, they'll be handled natively by BlueZ and PluseAudio and show up as standard audio out in android.
  • you can configure bluetooth keyboards in SFOS, they'll be handled natively by BlueZ and the HID device, and they will show up as standard input devices in android. (Note: on Xperia XA2, there was a bug prior to SFOS 3.3 that caused mistyping in android. be sure to upgrade).

As long as the android app doesn't need to directly talk to the bluetooth device, it should be okay.

Thanks, @DrYak

But I need to interact with some devices that are not handled natively by SFOS but only via the android apps of these devices, e.g. a heating pump and a dashcam. Maybe som fine day, there'll be a solution.

Are you sure that the dashcam relies on Bluetooth? For what I know cams have been using Wifi for ages (action cams like GoPro, point'n'shoot cameras like Olympus Though, even SD cards with embed Wifi fileservers such as PQI Air), mostly due to much better bandwidth.

Those are hit and-miss on Sailfish: AlienDalvik can see Wifi connection, but doesn't have access to low-level details. Some apps just straight work as long you've connected to their Wifi via native SFOS. Other apps try to control the Wifi themselves and fail. But very often you can just point your browser to the embed webserver inside the webcam.
