When viewing the list of SMS messages received from and sent to a certain contact, the messages are listed from top-to-bottom with the newest message shown at the bottom.
Is it possible to configure the list view such that the list is sorted from bottom-to-top, so that the newest message is shown at the top?

Since there is no option for that in the Messaging app itself nor in Settings->Apps->Messaging, the answer is obviously no :)
You can transform your question into a feature-request, but won't the user experience be a little weird then, since the keyboard will hide the last received messages? On which app have you already seen that?
haven't seen that in another app, but I got confused by the different list order in different contexts:
when I launch "messages" the list showing messages from different contacts appears, with the most recent message at the top of the list
if I then tab on one of the contacts the detailed list for that contact is shown, now with the most recent message at the bottom
