Tried yesterday and su binary working for me.
su binary should have 6755 rights and should be placed in both /system/bin and /opt/alien/system/bin, some applications looking for su in different folders.
Superuser binary-only: https://openrepos.net/content/coderus/aliendalvik-superuser-binary
And then you need to install Superuser by ChainsDD and set Allow mode, because Jolla aliendalvik can't manage permissions and show dialog.
Or install Superuser binary and apk bundle: https://openrepos.net/content/coderus/aliendalvik-superuser
It contains everything you need to get root in aliendalvik
Is it possible now to install an app to hide android bottombutton bar, and to use some gesture app providing back button functionality?
veeall ( 2014-06-16 14:58:38 +0300 )Yes, i should try it myself, i agree.:) But i just erased my phone and am enjoying nice low battery usage. Maybe someone who reads this have experimented with fullscreen+ android app for example.
I know i can hide android buttons by editing build.prop in jolla, just that i haven't found a way to emulate back button functionality, and while fullscreen+ includes this, it does need root to function, so with the help of this su package it could hopefully work.
veeall ( 2014-06-16 15:13:24 +0300 )Thanks!
@veeall: there are some gesture apps on Android such as GMD Gesture Control that work rather well. I have only tried GMD on my tablet though (where it uses multitouch gestures), so I don't know how it handles gestures on small screens. I'll give it a try if I don't forget.

me interested in rooting some applications too sailfish should have own aliendalvik rooting mechanism under developer mode settings, imho
coderus ( 2014-03-18 11:02:31 +0300 )@coderus should, but..
Van-ess0 ( 2014-03-19 04:41:32 +0300 )there is this universal "one click apk" root called Towelroot. Can't report if it works a my Jolla is currently on a holiday to Finland. http://towelroot.com/
vandersmash ( 2014-06-16 12:32:36 +0300 )I suggest this should be reopened as aliendalvik root is not possible in current version of SailfishOS
This is a very big security issue. Root is necessary to restrict permissions of Android apps
zepher ( 2017-11-07 01:35:45 +0300 )It is still working fine under current SailfishOS releases, but only on the Jolla 1 phone with its AOSP 4.1.2 based AlienDalvik (as already stated in so many places, now here as well)!
