[suggestion] Hide empty alphabet tiles in People app
Currently, alphabet tiles that have no records associated with them are greyed out in People app. That looks ok when you have English locale and only use latin names in your address book. But when you have English locale while most of your contacts' names are non-latin your alphabet grid becomes really ugly.
As you can see most of the latin alphabet tiles are greyed out and cyrillic tiles, that are actually in use, are added to the end of the alphabet. So every time I have to scroll all the way down, past greyed out tiles that are just taking up space, to reach actual contact records.
So, in my opinion, unused tiles shouldn't be visible at all in People app. Or at least there should be an option to hide them completely. Greyed out tiles take up usable space while providing little to nothing helpful information.
i'm in the same configuration with only point have two unused letters in both alphabets. Not sure what is better, now finger approximately remembers where are the letters, as soon as you add couple of English contacts motoric is to be trained again. If go this way perhaps better through setting - to hide or to grey tiles.

But I'm only using latin characters... On your picture with the cyrillic characters it looks, indeed, ugly. So I am for an option to show/hide unused characters.
blubdibub ( 2014-03-05 17:20:54 +0200 )editA hiding or greyed-out option in the settings would be very useful, as i for myself prefer when not used letters would be hidden. (Although i only use the latin alphabet, hence not having the mentioned problems of the TO.)
laubblaeser ( 2014-03-05 17:35:44 +0200 )editI have primarily cyrillic contacts too, and every time I choose "Call a contact" I have to scroll down the empty list. An option to hide empty tiles would be great. There can be no interaction with empty tiles anyway. As for the motoric memory, I (that's why I vote for an option to hide unused letters!) don't want my finger to remember the need to scroll down before I can choose a contact to call :)
