Coming from an N9, I would like to have a "swype-like", "slide keyboard" input method on my Jolla, it greatly improves the speed and accuracy of typing, especially in one-handed use. Android also has this by default, but N9's swype is/was better.

Edit 1.1.9.28

Any news from dev team? Would it ever be possible to add a third-party keyboard at least?

Edit Third Party Keyboard

Hi all, Swype like Keyboard is working as already stated in some of these answers here before. Our dear community got it implemented and i am very happy that this missing feature is now with us. :-D So everybody who need this feature can download "OKboard" via openrepos and also select its language package, if it is already available

Coming from N900 & Communicator series I found Swype to be absolutely essential on N9.

I could not live without it at this point. I find myself swyping all the time on Jolla's keyboard, only to realise that it doesn't work :( It's become second nature to me.

Surely a swype keyboard would be a natural fit for the entirely gesture-based Sailfish interface. I have to say I was surprised that it was not included.

There's an existing thread at Swype's official forums here. Would recommend adding to it to show level of interest & support.

I'm also swyping all the time on My Jolla. Can't wait to get it on My Precious!!! On N9 it was working perfectly!

@smatkovi - I am sorry but i can't help you. The loopen keyboard is a project by Jimmy Huguet and others. I just wanted people to know about it.

It would be nice if you could explain why...

vattuvarg ( 2015-04-07 22:08:10 +0300 )

I have key monk long ago on my android based machine, you work with two finger simultaneously and once you get use to it normal swype seems primitive.

I seriously would pay £3 for such an up!!!

There is source and instructions in this github websites: http://git.tuxfamily.org/okboard/okb-engine.git/

http://git.tuxfamily.org/okboard/okb-keyboard.git/

But I have no clue how to do any of those keyboard things, I appreciate very much if someone could build an rpm package

@meldolion the question can not be considered answered, since OKBoard only supports latin alphabets. For example, I could be interested in English and Russian.

I think you can "train" it to support more languages. Community work is needed AFAI understand.

Swype-like keyboard is a real must-have for me. But the problem is that (imho) Jolla is too small to spent it's precious manpower on it, and we still have no paid app support in Jolla Store to make it intresting for SWYPE to invest into SFOS version development.

Would be great to have any update on this from Jolla team.

Are there projects to inject some crowdfunding vitamins into?

@vattuvarg Look at the most voted answer in this thread (https://together.jolla.com/question/333/swype-like-virtual-keyboard/?answer=43228#post-id-43228) - @Dinesh was doing a job, but no updates on it's progress since Dec'14...

@rburkhanov - That is exactly why i asked.

What is the problem that keeps you from using the standard SailfishOS keyboard?

Stop it! Nothing jolla can do with swype and skype, it is not open source

I gradually find lumia phone appealing, especially with the next pureview camera flagship with 8.1, and yes, it has swype like keyboard and native skype

Sailfish OS runs commercial apps already. Swype is a bit more difficult which is why I'm following the Skeyer project closely. An open-source keyboard feels a bit safer, imho. ...but the pureview cameras are nice.

vattuvarg ( 2014-07-03 10:23:18 +0300 )

If everybody kept repeating the "it's not open source, nothing can be done about it" mantra, there would be no open software at all. While it may be true for applications based on proprietary protocols like Skype or WhatsApp (even if they get reverse engineered from time to time, with a bit of luck and effort), it has no sense for a thing like a slide keyboard input method, which can be recreated from scratch as open software, for the benefit of the whole community... and it is actually already being done by two different projects. Here is one, here is the other.

Gesture typing is not tied to the Swype keyboard developed by Nuance. The keyboard on WP8.1 is developed purely by Microsoft. There are tons of keyboard that support gesture typing on the Play Store, even "Google Keyboard". The opensouce Android custom rom CyanogenMod has a modified version of the AOSP keyboard that integrates gesture typing.
