Can we expect cheaper (lo-fi) other halves?
Okay, say I just wanted the backside of my phone to be black instead of white. And I didn't need new ambiences or other fancy stuff, because I like to customize these things myself. No smartness or NFC needed, just a single piece of quality plastic.
From that point of view, 30EUR for the Keira other half seems to be a not-so-good deal for me. Plus shipping it's nearly 10% of what I have paid for the phone itself.
Will there be cheaper lo-fi alternatives from Jolla? Or am I misjudging production costs and it is actually not possible to create a lower budget other half, which is still robust and qualitative?
I agree. Instead of these OH I would prefer you sell something using i2c circuit. There are so many things to do with it!

I think with the purchase of a TOH now you will not only get a piece of hardware but also support Jolla in their ongoing work. A one time phone purchase just doesn't keep them alive over the years.
Anna ( 2014-05-05 03:52:23 +0200 )edit@Anna sure I have spent more money for less useful things, but I am also spending less money for more useful things... For the turnover, I hope they're still selling phones to other people ;-) Joking aside: I'd be happy to spend some extra EURs for support of the idea behind Jolla and Sailfish... still there's got to be a rational cost/benefit ratio, which I (personally) cannot find in current TOH offers.
tokaru ( 2014-05-05 10:27:00 +0200 )edit@Anna: I bought the black OH and I can say I think it's too expensive for a simple theme added to a backdoor. Of course it's a support but nowadays everyone is careful with money and Jolla could have more benefits in volume sales to propose simple OH too!
juju_des_highlands ( 2014-05-05 12:03:29 +0200 )editSee the price for the TOH as a donation rather than a highly overpriced piece of plastic with a NFC sticker attached to it.
