I think that the reason to use it is the same than free the user to have a google account...what else?

Use of DDG should be actively encouraged to help maintain privacy and results not tailored to your previously recorded interests.

I would think this as a duplicate. A couple similar questions listed here how-to-change-browser-search-engine-startpage-duckduck-go.

One of those questions has a hack for setting DDG as a search engine.
