[feature-request] XMPP typing indication [XEP-0085]
Most of the PC clients and some mobile clients (e.g. Xabber) for XMPP show some kind of indication when the other side in chat is typing a message. I think it would be nice to have some kind of subtle indication about that in the messaging app. We are all used to it and there is IMHO no reason not to show this information when it it is available (GTalk and the Facebook XMPP API support this as well). The behaviour would be consistent through the different account types and I am sure telepathy supports this.
Some things such as XMPP Stanzas are out of our hands for now but I guess implementation of this could be fairly easy. What I had in mind was a small pencil icon with the word "Typing..." next to it (maybe animated dots) centred above the input field.
This is covered in XEP-0085 and is in the status "Final Standard". Not supporting this makes the chat experience inconsistent with almost all of the XMPP clients.
EDIT: Does anyone have an idea what/where the indication should be?
This is solved in an interesting way in Mitäkuuluu, by making the pulley menu indicator at the top pulsate. There is of course no pulley menu in the messaging app (at least not in the screen where you type messages), so that can't be used. I do think something similar, that doesn't take up any extra space on the screen, that is visually pleasing and clear to understand, should be used.

If Jolla came up with something #unlike that saves space, I would be all for it. Too bad there is no pulley menu in the chat view. There is free space between current time and the messaging method indicator, some clever typing indication could go in the middle.

Most of the messaging mobile apps have this, therefore I am surprised there isn't more people who would like to see this implemented. I shall leave the question open for a while longer and then close it.
