Intel is bringing it's TurnKey Program for Smartphones beginning end of year 2014. The program helps with reference designs, development tools and lots of marketing $$$.

This sounds like a good opportunity for a Possible Jolla 2 or 3 device.

They'll probably support Android and Windows phone. And maybe Tizen in which they burned millions on.

However if they are able to provide open drivers for every component it would be more than nice.

Thanks to libhybris it's not a problem to use closed binary blobs from Android HAL.

what use would be switching to intel hardware if we can't get rid of binary blobs?

  • industry leading manufacturing, 14nm
  • leading to lowest power consumption
  • hopefully discounted soc prices
  • free marketing $$$

Well, that is nothing a floss enthusiast cares for, but a small company needing to grow sure does. Also it's not sure if those are closed blobs. I just said if they are closed, then it's not a problem.

@Morpog Closed blobs are not a problem, but your device will run smoother without them.
