Nowadays all passwords require numbers . having to switch every time is time consuming. would be great to have an additional row of numbers when entering passwords in apps or browser

Better: show a number row at the top (period). There is enough space on screeen to display an additional row.

It could be placed where the predictive text row is

Keyboard layouts can be customized by users (this is quite easy), also community can write own maliit plugins

True, but I think it should be the default.

One more row decreases available screen space

It just has to be there when entering passwords.

@dez: Please point out how to make custom keyboard layouts. I tried to add Ctrl and Del (Del mapped to Shift + Backspace) keys but couldn't manage it. Is there documentation?

@rdmo There are editable files for keyboard configuration (qml and conf files in the /usr/share/maliit/plugins/com/jolla/layouts/ directory). I am not a maliit framework/plugin developer/maintainer so do not know it. But I hacked keyboard layouts in the past on my N9 and it was simple.
