Nowadays tracking of people on sites is common but yet to be prevented please.

For example the G+ icon on this topic (and any other) calls home!

There are ways to embed icons for posting in social media without having them actively snoop.

Hello Chemist,

You are tracked on tjc by gravatar.com by default, even without any of the social web buttons. Your Avatar image has address: https://www.gravatar.com/avatar/9947533c7ffa2a466d16114f63dc2d29?s=32&d=identicon&r=PG.

thanks for commenting, I just installed a browser addon to see all those snooping highlighted and thought it might be a good idea to make a general question out of it. G+ is just one example. And I just recognized I did upvote the other question already.

The point is: You have selected and activated your Avatar yourself. (However, it does not help much not to do so: My automatically generated Avatar image is also hosted by gravatar.com.)
