After I got my Jolla in December 2013 the indicated memory usage kept rising with time even though I was not downloading large files -- my main downloads have been ebooks not videos! The situation became so bad that the indicated usage equalled the capacity of 13.7GB and all apps stopped working.

A factory reset and upgrading back to the latest version of Sailfish brought the usage indication back to between 2 and 3GB but the indicated usage has been steadily rising again until it now shows 7.1GB.

Is there a cure for this erosion of free memory or am I going to be cursed with the need to do another factory reset in two or three months, with all the upgrading and reinstalling of apps entailed?

You can use the 'Space Inspector' application, available from the Jolla store, to see which files are using all the storage space.

Did you do any backup? Also photos can take a lot of free space.

I haven't been doing backups and I haven't taken many photos. The main apps I use are kindle and fbreader for ebooks, so a fair number of under 1MB files -- certainly far short of 1GB worth. I don't tweet and I haven't been using the browser much. Is there a need or a method for cleaning up the memory usage, like there used to be for PC hard drives? I'm used to Linux file systems not filling up with extraneous crap that has to be ousted at regular intervals, and I thought Sailfish used a sensible file system

Are you using Aptoide? If so, clean the apk cache.

Seems to all be down to FBReader: at present Books/.FBReader 2.8GB and Android storage (org.geometerplus.zlibrary.ui.android) 2.1GB

Seems rather much for books -- I may have downloaded quite a few, but the biggest books tend to be closer to 100KB rather than a MB and I'm sure I haven't downloaded that many. Is there any sensible way I can persuade an Android app like FBReader to use the 32GB microSD card I have installed to keep its data?
