Not all GSM providers seem to support automatic time updates via GSM network as mine (Germany E-Plus). It also didn't work with my N900 or N9. If I'm connected to a roaming network than it works.

I would like to have a (S)NTP option to automatically update the time. Once a day should be enough.

I second that, a native app or native feature to do auto sync with Time servers would be good.

I agree, would be nice.

I'm disappointed that this is not working out of the box. I actually took ntp support as granted when I bought the telephone. That's the number two thing I was missing on my android, and one of the reasons to buy the jolla.

Time sync work is ongoing

ntp is available (and possibly installed) but doesn't have proper systemd integration in upstream Mer (feel free to contribute - it may need some tuning work to reduce wakeups)

pkcon install ntp

I use it as my GSM provider in the UK does not have time data.

Doesn't look like the traditional ntpd I'm used to. How do you use this? There's no manon Jolla. http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=ntpd&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=OpenBSD+Current&arch=i386&format=html

NTP sync is not as easy to implement as it looks. It has taken quite some resources to get it really correct in OpenBSD. If there's no pressing reason, please don't knit your own one.

connman already supports ntp, there's no need to install another ntp daemon on Jolla.

Enabling automatic time update in the Settings application will enable NTP time adjustment provided by connman.

As a side note, automatic time update uses NITZ data that may be provided by the cellular network [1] in addition to NTP.

I'd be curious to know what is the default ntp time server?

connman is using NTP option provided by the DHCP server, otherwise fallback servers are 0.pool.ntp.org, 1.pool.ntp.org, 2.pool.ntp.org and 3.pool.ntp.org. On top of that, connman is also trying to default gateway as an NTP server (pretty strange idea, in my opinion). The order in which servers are contacted may vary.

Can connman be configured to not use the NTP option provided by the DHCP server, but only the manually set time servers?
