After almost 8 months of the first Jolla phone was sold, we still don't find spare batteries in the Jolla Shop or by any official distributor. To deliver a clear message about their urgent need I hope that the most active phone users could provide their current battery capacity in a comment - And hope to see an answer from Jolla solving the issue (There are no other way to lift up the capacity but providing a spare battery)

How to:

Developer mode needed
Start app called "terminal" (becomes visible in developer mode to your launcher)
write ´upower -d´ and press enter
Search the reading for "capacity" and post it as a comment

EDIT: Please note the the capacity reading differs depending on your latest chargings, showing less if the phone has been charged only partially lately. You should get the biggest (and most accurate) readings after a couple of full charges. The amount of current charge percentage shouldn't matter.

Thanks for all 76 values, you just keep on surprising with your unlike activity!

Time to do the math. Estimated level of capacity loss seems to be about 1,5% / month. Estimation is based on average of 10 lowest values in the comments, and on assumption that these phones have been taken into use during 2013. There is a possibility for errors both in the readings and in the assumption, but these errors shouldn't be remarkable.

Now, if we take 80% as the critical level (level on which the first group of customers would like to replace their batteries), knowing that the first phones were sold November 27th, 2013, we reach the critical level for The First Ones in about 13 months (end of 2014), that being the average time.

As an answer I'd simply like to suggest that Jolla takes our feedback into count and provides us a way to buy replace batteries in a reasonable time, maybe based on this math and the critical level they see fair, noticing that some customers who use their phone heavily might have lower capacity already earlier, and for them the capacity would also be more important.

Nice to have spare batteries but other topics are much more urgent ....

Well, it is urgent enough for people who actually need a phone and don't have a backup phone (and can't get a backup battery because, well, there is none to be had). Batteries are prone to sudden death (much more so than anything else in a phone), so a second battery in your luggage is sort of a must if you are away from home for a while and you want rely on your phone. (What iPhone and other solderedBatteryPhone owners do, I have no idea, maybe carry around a dumbphone backup?)

I don't think you can estimate loss of capacity linearly. The capacity percentage is at best an estimation and not very reliable in itself. From my experience with laptops you go to 95% quickly and then hover between 90% and 95% for a long time. That said, of course it would be nice to be able to get a spare. Did you try to google for a battery with similar dimensions and similar electrical characteristics? Maybe you can get one from a different vendor.

I've only had my phone a matter of days but would also like a spare, I am too used to having 3 for my android knocking about that I can take with me when I know it'll get heavy use - this should have been on sale with the phones launch.
