I see that the jolla HW support P2P-client / and P2P-GO interface modes, would be nice have some type of UI support to use it.

wpa_supplicant version is 2.2 but was build without the p2p support

I bring this up again.

Reading reviews at from new sailfish users at amazon.in it seems to me that most of the (sailfish related) negative reviews have their root in two missing key features, common users seem to expect:

1: Android File sharing Apps like ShareIt (and others) don't work. Most of these Apps depend on Wifi-Direct. I guess, that's the reason they don't work on SFOS

2: Missing VoLTE support. Common users in India seem to expect this as a basic feature on a smartphone. With growing VoLTE support by european providers this will be a basic expetation by european users in the near future, too

I perfectly agree on the possibility to have D2D communication. It could be interesting to have it with the Tablet in order to provide synchronization.

It is possibel to use shareit app for android in Intex aqua fish. 1) Sailfish dont let shareit create new wifi network. I dont know the exact reason. May be due to the reason being discussed in this post. 2) But shareit allow data transfer using existing network, can be find in shareit setting. Both recieving and sending device must be connected to same wifi network created on third device. We can send and recieve data through this method. 3) Certainly native support is always way better than tweaking things. Android have already created huge dependecy on these feature. People finds hard to cope up with absence of these features.

does it work if one of the phones is set-up as hotspot? no perfect solution, but in case of "no common w-lan available" i guess that this allows faster transfers than bluetooth would.

No, if you are not connected to other network and choose hotspot mode, reciever automatically starts creating new hotspot. 1) This is only when reciever is jolla device. 2)Sender does not create any hotspot in shareit, it just connect to through wifi created by reciever.

How hard would it be to enable this for new/existing hardware?

Connman and wpa_supplicant already support it upstream, though I don't know which version Jolla is currently using so that might need some updates.

I'm not asking it to be a public API but enabling wifi p2p "as is" for developers to use would be a first step to get something that should be basic functionality in late 2017.
