Kill switches in cell phones appear to be having an effect on thieves. Apple does it. Samsung is doing it.

How about Jolla add a kill switch to Sailfish for Jolla to ward of thieves and pick pockets!?

No, I regard it an antifeature. I don't want anyone, nor law enforcement or government, to have such far-reaching control over my device.

the iOS kill switch (aka authentification for device reset) has led to my girlfriend's stolen iPad being returned within a few days and my dad's wasn't stolen when thieves broke into his house last week.

So, yeah, a kill switch or whatever it might be called is an absolute MUST for me now and to everyone who's ever had a beloved gadget stolen. And if it's only to know that a thief can't use it (although a possibility to locate it etc. should be a standard nowadays imho)

I am totally against an enforced kill switch for all Jolla phones! This goes against the spirit of OSS and Jolla that the user has control over the software of the phone. An installable kill switch software that can be activated by the user (and not by the vendor, Jolla, etc,) is fine, but this is not the same as the Apple solution.

I agree with @umko. Users should have control over anything running on their device. Prey project seems like a good anti-theft solution and is considered by Jolla as described here: https://together.jolla.com/question/46083/device-lock-code-define-a-trusted-person/
