The author of this anonymising, metadata avoiding software is apparently a UX engineer for Jolla, and both the official Jolla Twitter account and Jolla staff have retweeted Wired's story on Mr. Brooks - Wired story link.

My question is, can we expect native support for it by Jolla, or in Sailfish? Or at least a separate app, I can imagine that if @coderus ported his excellent Mitakuuluu UI, it could prove pretty popular and drive adoption.

If Jolla is gonna support richochet, please do it in the messenger app itself. Just like they did with google talk. No need for separate apps for every im protocol.

Whilst there's no reason not to support it in the messenger app itself, if there's system wide support for it then anything can be done. Also, given the basic nature of the messenger app and the problems Sailfish has with contact integration and population, I think there's something to be said for the provision of wholly separate Apps ... it's why I (and I assume others) have avoided using Google & Facebook accounts on the device.

I don't know about the problems sailfish has with contact integration and population, i've probably been one of the lucky ones with no problems so far. So i can't comment on that. But i like the basic look of the messenger app, it looks clean and sleek. While i use mitakuuluu everyday, somehow i find the UI not as professional as i would have liked. Now this is fine because the app itself is great but i still would have preferred to have it integrated in the messenger app. Just one app for all your im needs sound great to me, but i realize that UI stuff is highly personal.

Mitakuuluu is certainly much more complex, but then it offers quite a lot of features. If you compare it to any of the official Whatsapp clients, I think speed of use and navigation are much better once you're sufficiently familiar. Also, despite its simplicity, the built in messaging app is one of the applications (Browser being the other) where it will freeze or touch input / calibration is suddenly lost ... I'm not a big fan of it.

You request a "built in" and then ask for a separated UI? How about a telepathy plug-in and have it simply unified with the rest of the UI? special's twitter account already has the answer to this: there is no mobileOS port yet but for sure sailfishOS will be his first...

I'm not a coder, but as far I understood it, it goes further than just IM, so the OS or other applications might benefit from global support? Anyway, what you say is no doubt true. Do you have a link for the latter?

Sailfish is Real Linux, So all he needs is porting to telepathy, it should be indiferent if it's a desktop or a mobile at this point! There's no reason to take very long, with the excuse of it being a mobile OS...
