There is a problem I dont get any Hindi characters on my Jolla both in facebook and twitter. In other android tablets/phones these characters are being displayed correctly, How do I solve this issue ?

Edit: Hope when new Intex phones are launched, we will have better support for vernacular languages (Hindi, tamil, telugu, etc) here.

It's not just Hindi, it's many Unicode characters, actually. See e.g.: https://together.jolla.com/question/52375/some-chinese-characters-are-not-properly-shown-with-the-system-font/

Jolla needs to supply more complete fonts or someone could post instructions how to install more fonts into Sailfish and where to get them.

I have been trying to create some keyboards with available GPL fonts and having difficulty with many Indian Languages. Some characters don't show correctly on keyboard buttons, but when typed, it displays fine in the text area. I am not sure if it is an issue with just my phone. I will upload the Hindi keyboard as is today or tomorrow to OpenRepos.net and update it here. When installed, it will install the Gurumaa (GPL) font and install Keyboard Layout.

Uploaded Hindi Keyboard for Sailfish. https://openrepos.net/content/abyzthomas/hindi-keyboard-sailfish As mentioned earlier, it does not display some characters correctly on the keyboard layout. See screenshot in openrepos.

The keyboard is nice as now people can now view Hindi characters being sent to them. I would however request AbyZThomas to revise the font to align with the system font if possible

I had sent a request to dev mailing list on including Indian languages (officially) and Soumya Bijjal acknowledged it as an issue. https://lists.sailfishos.org/pipermail/devel/2015-February/005726.html

https://sailfishos.org/developmentroadmap/ has an update on Hindi keyboard itself getting implemented as well.

With release of 1.1.9.28

Support for Lohit Devanagari font (Indian fonts)

Does it solve your issue?

Update with screen shot of google.co.in. I don't have Hindi fonts previously installed.

Saw that in release notes. Yet to download the release but since I already have fonts installed doubt if my test will be valid.
