Blood glucose meter OtherHalf? [not relevant]
This is a simple and complicated idea. I'm a diabetic (insulin resistant) and would like an OtherHalf for measuring glucose.
The software would probably be easy to create and integrate with the rest of Sailfish. Just imagine how easy the 4.5 inch screen would be to read! The shell of the OtherHalf would be even easier. Factory made circuits would probably be a breeze to fit inside a factory tOH shell.
The hard part is getting a respected company to use the idea. Feel free to spread the word.
Is there a good video that explains how "active" an OtherHalf can be?

The Jolla can provide 5 or 3.3 v, not sure about how much current it can draw. However some additional measurement pin would probably be needed in such a TOH. Data can be given over I2C I guess, but if some simple circuit can provide analog measurement to the Jolla then.I guess the Jolla would be able to do the analysis from a Jolla application directly. Some connector would be needed to insert the sticks into I guess, probably on the side.
It is a great and original product idea. Probably doubtful though that any company would go for it since the Jolla has such little market share, at least right.now.
My wife would really love.such a TOH too, she has a Jolla and type 2 diabetes. No need to drag.around a separate device for that.
Larswad ( 2014-10-22 22:06:20 +0200 )editThe company that gets this idea first would get a new kind of device to sell. A smart and caring phone. Their customers would have one less device to carry around. (Is it an "added value" when something is removed?)
They would be selling it as a package most of the time. The phone would have a customized OtherHalf with branding and the subtle black front. Of course there would be a bunch of branded ambiences and channels for multimedia for the device (product news, video manuals, etc.).
The process of making the glucose meter would be quite simple. The company would have to create the interface to the measuring sticks that would send results via the i2c bus to a Sailfish app. The app would be created with the SDK, which wouldn't cost the company anything to deploy. Updates would be done through a dedicated channel in the Jolla software manager (basically an improved store). The channel would be hosted by the company itself but available in the Jolla channel index. The channel activation can be done automatically by the OtherHalf.
The customers will be surprised when the odd solution brings a better phone as a bonus. Someone with additional needs won't have to buy a complete machine for measuring something else. One more OtherHalf would do. It doesn't need to come from the same company either.
The meter-in-a-phone could speed up the process in hospitals too. It would cut costs, that much is certain.
